Suzzanna was born as Suzzanna Martha Frederika van Osch on October 13, 1942 in Bogor, West Java. She was of mixed Javanese, Minahasan, Sundanese, German and Dutch descent. She started her acting career as a child actress in 1957, after winning a Tiga Dara competition in Yogyakarta. She rose to fame after starring in Asrama Dara (1958), directed by Usmar Ismail, for which she won the Best Child Actress Award at the Asian Film Festival and the Indonesian Film Festival. In the 1960s, Suzzanna married actor Dicky Suprapto and established several film production companies with him.
